Welcome to Shift Happens, the PNG podcast. I'm Charlotte, and in today's episode we'll be speaking about bank holiday weekend trips. Easter is around the corner, and if you're lucky enough to have the Friday to Monday off these Road trips might Be for you.
Starting from the top of the UK, we have the Scottish Highlands and if you're looking for an adventurous Easter break, Scotland offers an unforgettable trip. With the mountains, deep locks and ancient castles, the Highlands offer some of the most breath-taking scenery in the UK.
So this road trip starts in Inverness. And you drive along the iconic Loch Ness and hopes to find the Loch Ness Monster and then continue on to Fort William, where you can climb Ben Nevis and then head to Glen Coe, before finishing at Stirling.
If the Scottish Highlands are a bit far for you to travel, then the spring is the ideal time to visit the North York Moors as the landscape comes alive with the wild flowers and new lambs can be found in the fields. The towns also have a wholesome vibe above it with its Moorlands and stone villages.
So discover the beauty of Yorkshire Dales and Moors and by visiting Skipton before heading to Grassington, Hawes, and Leyburn.
As we all know, the heart of England's beauty can be found at the Lake District. So this is one of the most scenic destinations in the UK due to its stunning lakes, mountains and traditional villages.
So beginning in Windermere drive through Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick.
Easter is the perfect time to explore the lakes on foot with its Hiking trails. However, if Hiking isn't for you, you can still enjoy a literally walk around the beautiful lakes and villages.
The Peak District is one of the most accessible national parks in the UK. It offers limestone valleys, caves the most gorgeous villages, and plenty of hiking opportunities.
From Sheffield, you can head to Bakewell, which is home of the Bakewell Tarts and visit Egdale and Castleton.
And when we think of the South, we think of London. We think of busy cities, absolutely hectic and just constantly on the go, but we forget about the surroundings areas such as the Cotswolds.
So these market towns are known for their honey coloured stone cottages and lush countryside. The Cotswolds really come alive in the spring with vibrant wild flowers and fresh greenery everywhere you look.
So start your journey in Oxford, we recommend visiting Burford, Chipping at Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Burton-on-the-Water.
Whether you are craving coastal beauty, historic towns, or the peace and quiet of nature, there's something for everyone.
These road trips are just a taste of what the UK has to offer this Easter bank holiday, as these routes offer the perfect mix of scenic landscapes, charming villages and outdoor adventures.
